One Year

It was a Friday afternoon

The sun was shining

There was a slight breeze

Mom was there sleeping with you in your room

Just the two of you

Partners

Sometimes in crime

Most of the time in love

Your body said ‘no more’

You took your last breath and

I took my first breath without you

The pain was overwhelming

I didn’t want to leave your body

Even when I knew it was just a body and it wasn’t you

I wanted a different reality

A reality that included you remembering me

Mom

Greg

Our family

Our life together

My love for you

That’s not reality though

Reality for us is joyful and sorrowful

You have been made whole

I have to live life without you until I get to see you again

One response to “One Year”

  1. The loss is great, but the memories help with the loss. And some day a reuniting will take place.
